What a beautiful honor it was to host Jasmine for this conversation of the heart.  We talk about her spiritual journey and her relationship with sacred blood as a medium for her art, and about the movement for this art that she is single-handedly leading.
.
“I dream to experience in this lifetime the manifestation of millions of Gods and Goddesses on Earth.”
.Jasmine Alicia Carter is a Menstrual Artist, Woman Embodiment Mentor, Wife, Mother of 2 and founder of Sacred Woman: a world-class brand devoted to empowering and inspiring women to return to a state of holistic balance, supporting them in embodying their authentic feminine nature to live a healthy, womb-centered and meaningful life.
.
Sacred Woman also has an online boutique that offers women's care products and sacred pleasure tools to awaken and celebrate the sacred sexual expression of the female body. Jasmine’s favorite way to share feminine wisdom is drawing with her menstrual blood, a sacred art that she's been spreading across the world since 2016. Her work, which has gone viral all over the world and has been featured on major news platforms, led to the creation of a non-profit organization called Menstrual Art Movement that counts thousands of women and bleeders world-wide who embraced their periods as a source of empowerment and healing.

In this episode, Nikki Weaver, the founder of "On the Inside" shares a powerful memory of witnessing her mother's remarkable ability to alter the energy in a space, and create the potential for deep healing in a second.  This memory, and the memory of her mother lives in the work Nikki now does for women in prisons through her project called "On the Inside," that utilizes storytelling, theater and the healing arts.
.
Playful. Honest. Curious. Nikki is an innovative creator and passionate communicator, driven by a desire to understand other points of view. She brings a deep sense of listening, curiosity and an open heart to any team she is a part of. She believes in empowering women through connection to our bodies, each other, and our spirits. After losing her mother at the age of ten and moving to Australia ten days later, Nikki began to look for her mother in other women. This body of work stems from her mother’s work of working with incarcerated men in the state of California. Nikki holds a B.F.A. from The Australian Academy of Dramatic Arts and an M.F.A. from George Washington University and The Shakespeare Theatre. Her toolbox is filled with being a yoga teacher, a massage therapist, reiki practitioner, meditator, a mom to two wild girls, and a partner that surprises her every day. She has facilitated circles for ages 4-80-year-olds, offering mindfulness and creativity practices. Nikki loves to stand on her head, running at sunrise (23 marathons to boot!), getting creative with her kids and family, and creating national and international wellness retreats. To be on the inside in circle with women has been the biggest gift of her life. It is where all the walls come down. A co-founder of Portland Playhouse, Nikki is the Founder of On The Inside.

Shortly after meeting each other on retreat many years ago, my guest and I shared a season of yearning for the love that we now both have.  We steeped ourselves in this "holy ache" as we both call it; we trusted in it, and with it.  Join me for a conversation with Alexandra Roxo.  We talk about desire, yearning, aloneness and living a life in love as Love.
.
Alexandra Roxo is an artist, bestselling author, and mentor in the space of embodied spirituality and transformation. She aims to bring modern, embodied spirituality into the lives and hearts of people who have forgotten their spiritual connection to life, or their bodies, or sexuality, or simply think spirituality cannot include their full wild, raw selves. Her goal is to continue to invite people into devotional and spiritual living, and to reclaim experience based embodied spirituality again as a greater culture.
.
Alexandra has been featured as a guest speaker on many renowned podcasts and on TV including two seasons on Netflix's "Too Hot to Handle'' where she was called "The deeper connection queen". She also has appeared on ViceTV’s "Slutever", Epix’s "Sex / Life" show, and at numerous festivals and events worldwide. Well + Good called her a “modern spiritual leader” and The New York Times said of Alexandra’s work: “Come for the meditation coaching, stay to get in touch with the divine feminine within.” She has also been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Playboy, and In Style Magazine for her work bringing embodied spirituality to women worldwide. She has led retreats at 1440 Multiversity, Kripalu Center, and Maha Rose.
.
Her first book, titled "F*ck Like a Goddess: Heal Yourself, Reclaim Your Voice, Stand in Your Power," was released in July 2020 with Sounds True. It quickly became the number one new release on Amazon and remained a bestseller for five consecutive weeks in 2020. The book achieved this status in three categories. It regained its popularity in 2023 with the release of the paperback version. It was featured on Refinery 29, Pop Sugar, Bustle, and In Style as a comprehensive guidebook for women on modern spirituality beyond the mainstream. It is also praised as a practical resource for healing that encompasses the body, mind, and spirit. Publisher's Weekly called it "a sharp forceful debut" and it was one of Bustle's "best summer reads."
.
Before delving into the space of spirituality with her work, Alexandra spent over a decade writing and creating as a filmmaker, artist, actress, and director, including co-creating the cult webshow, "Be Here Nowish" and the VICE show ''Every Woman'' which was viewed by over 15 million people and turned into a TV pilot with executive producer Spike Jonze.
.
Alexandra holds a BFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she studied playwriting, art for healing and social change, movement and embodiment, vocal work, and the dramatic arts for healing and expression. She has also studied with various teachers in different spiritual traditions since she was 13 years old, when she met her first spiritual teacher, Bobby Drinnon, as a young girl in Georgia. She began her studies of embodiment, meditation, and yoga practice at 18, and has studied various types of energy work, and is a student of multiple spiritual traditions. She has also been trained in trauma informed care and works with clients one on one as a coach and mentor.
.
“Alexandra reminds us of our feminine power and that sensuality and devotion belong together.” —Rebecca Campbell, bestselling author of Rise Sister Rise

Contemplating the unforgivable is a very personal curiosity, a spiritual and healing journey for some of us.  In this episode, I explore the practice and the power of forgiveness through the lens of a brave heart and remarkable artist named Sharon Kagan.  She is literally, figuratively and artistically the thread that knits us all together - in the unconditional love of forgiveness.
.
Sharon Kagan’s multimedia work focuses on listening, unraveling, and pulling apart the complexities of intergenerational trauma and forgiveness. She brings her experiences as the daughter of Holocaust survivors to her work.  Kagan has developed a complex practice that is built upon the symbolic act of knitting. Layering intimate stories onto the act of knitting transforms this traditional woman’s craft into a distinct language; a metaphor.  Her work speaks to the patterns that are created when a life is broken, a stitch is dropped.  But breaking can also be an act of breaking free.  Kagan sees resilience, beauty, and integrity amidst her parents’ broken lives.
.
Kagan’s practice comes from intersectional feminism and privileges the act of listening.  By using stories that have been contributed anonymously and direct engagement with her audiences she becomes “the listener.”  At her Alfred University exhibit students sat beside her; knitting, sharing stories or in silence.
.
Kagan received the WORD Artist Grant (2021). Recent solo exhibitions include “Compassion in Action,” Alfred University, NY (2022); “The Politics of Color,” Show Gallery, Hollywood, CA; and “String Theory,” College of Southern Idaho, Twin Falls, ID (2020-2021) and Yellowstone Art Museum, Billings, MT (2019).
